HOW OFFSHORING IMPACTS YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT AND WHAT AUSTRALIA CAN DO

Remarkably, there still seems to be no comment from either state or federal governments about the impact of offshore employment upon youth employment or employment generally.

This is possibly because there is little that can be done to prevent the trend, but more likely that they are slow in catching on to the scale of the issue.

Your competitors are about to crush you on price – here’s why

If you don’t understand that global resourcing is the biggest shift in labour allocation that the world has ever seen, then you also won’t understand that it is putting your business in imminent danger. You're very much like the saddle makers of the early 1900s who declared that cars would never catch on.

That's what I am reminded of when people tell me their customers will never buy from an offshore business or a local business which has offshore staff. The fact is, they already are, and if you don’t catch up fast, your business is as good as dead.

Massive offshore shift in Accounting and IT is accelerating

I wrote about this in early 2013 in my book "The Third Wave", warning that it was the next inevitable stage of globallisation and it was due to impact almost every business in Australia.

In some industries it's already happening. In the IT industry our research indicates there is already a downward pressure on hourly rates. I created a different brand in competition to my own business, just to test the theory. That brand is profitably charging ONE THIRD the price of my 13 year old IT services business, which charges industry averages. I'm now refocusing that low cost brand on providing managed IT services to IT providers themselves to help them adapt. What will their do when average hourly rates for IT services drop from $150 an hour to $75 an hour? That's less than cost price for local staff.

Collect your own small debts in court, for low cost with high success

I am writing this because I find myself telling other business owners this information regularly.

People who don’t pay when they know they should are basically thieves – they are taking your money and they deserve to be forced to pay.

Others are professional liars and manipulators and will concoct stories about how hard their life is, in order to get sympathy and not have to pay what they owe.

It is NOT your business’s responsibility to pay for someone else’s lack of ability to plan or execute. You did what you said you would do, now its their turn to do the same.

How I vastly improved my IT business with an offshore team

Six years ago I could not have pointed to the Philippines on a map. Today I take business clients there every month and reveal to them everything I’ve learned about global resourcing over five years of amazing experiences.

It began in 2010 when I started experimenting with a little site called oDesk – before it exploded into the mainstream. I found a lady from Manila who was happy to do data entry work for $A2.50 per hour. With my head full of articles I’d read about “sweat shops” and “slave wages”, I questioned her. She said she’d had  an office job but wanted to try working from home. I was her first client on oDesk.
